target audience questionnaire analysis!!

What age are you?

71% said they were 17 and 28% said they were 18.

This shows that I must target my teaser trailer to the age range of 17-18 year old people as this is where it will most likely be shown. This also shows that my questionnaire was targeted at a very small demographic of people therefore making my teaser trailer target a small amount of people.

What gender are you?

35% said they were male and 64% said they were female.

This shows that more females answered my questionnaire due to many reasons. This could have been because they felt more motivated to do so or because they found the questionnaire, overall, to be more interesting than the male demographic. This tells me that I may have to target my teaser trailer to the female audience.

What is your ethnicity?

100% said they were white.

This suggests that I should most likely be exhibiting and distributing this movie where the majority of the population is white as it will be more beneficial to the company to exhibit the movie where there are white ethnic origins because we know, looking at this questionnaire, that there will be more white ethnic groups going to watch this movie.

What category of film do you prefer to watch?

Horror - 7%
Thriller - 7%
Action/Adventure - 21%
Romance - 14%
Gangster - 0%
War - 0%
Fantasy - 14%
Sci-fi - 14%
Comedy - 21%
Western - 0%

This shows that more people are going to watch a movie which shows themes of action/adventure and comedy than a film which shows signs of horror or thriller. This is a surprise as I thought that the age group which I targeted this questionnaire to would be more likely to watch a movie with horror or thriller themes in them. Some people in the questionnaire picked more than one which was in the next question. These were mostly comedy and thriller which doesn't surprise me as the programmes/films that are on the TV/DVD which target this age range, are likely to be from this genre.

Look at the movie poster in the link here: http://www.impawards.com/2006/prestige.html and comment on Title, Lighting, Colour and Font

images of the male characters surrounding the female could show that they are protecting her, lighting has been used to distinguish who is bad and who is good, colours are black and white because this was the time it was set in, font is clear and easy to read targeting the whole market
very nice image of all the main actors, good use of lighting to show the baddy and goody, good use of black and white and font is easy to read
nice simplistic titles which draws extra attention to the faces in dark colours. i like the use of black and white and editing of the photo.
the title wasn't very obvous first time i saw it but its cool like the images, and how it is a dark poster it seems like it is probalbly going to be a dark themed filmbut really awesome two because of the actors and the way they are placed on the poster is neat, the font is standard getting the information out there but with style idea.
good use of lighting, good illumination of faces, title not strong enough, needs to show more of the blue face in the middle, plot not really that clear.
dark lighting and colours makes it look mysterious.
title is small, it has high jackman in it, shows who might be a goodie and who might be a baddie, very authentic looking and the font is simple and easy to read
Title - intriguing, image - makes me think is this a psycho movie?, lighting - good for the type of effect it wants to create (dark/mysterious) colour - adds to effect, font - easy to read
Dark, unoriginal, boring.
has a small title, the image is attractive, lighting is used to show if anyone is a baddie or a goodie and the font is simple and easy to read.
Woman in the center with blue smoke. She is between 2 men suggesting a love triangle. If i didnt know what the film was about, iwould have thought it was a romance. Prestige suggests delicacy, elite - heirarchy?
Dark, spooky, good use of typography through bold text.
Dark colours add moodiness, font suggests serious film.

This shows that the people who took the questionnaire liked the use of lighting to make it seem mysterious and it distinguished between the bad characters and the good characters. They also found that the font was clear and easy to read so therefore it targets a wider age group as well as who it was targeting in the first place. I will use this technique of lighting because I want to create the mysterious look. However, I will use colour in my poster and magazine cover because I want colour to be shown as it will target my target market in a more effective way.

What sort of film do you prefer to watch?

35% said authentic and 64% said modern.

This suggests that more people like elements from films that are about the present and the future rather than the past. This helps me as I will set costume and location in a modern area so that I don't lose the viewers' attention easily and therefore making the teaser trailer a failure.

From question 6, why do you prefer this type of film?

They preferred this type of film because the prefer to watch things that are made in modern times and not things that have already been repeated. Therefore, I shall make my teaser trailer set in the modern times as I could potentially lose my target markets interest if I was to make the movie authentic.

What is your favourite film?

the duchess
i am legend
amelie
Edward sissorhands
transformers/poseidon
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium
the a team
There are so many! The pacifier
Edward Scissor Hands
The Italian Job.
Flushed Away/ 2 fast 2 furious
inception
A Clockwork Orange
Scott Pilgrim vs. the world

This suggests that the majority of people like something that shows a bit of comedy but has a good storyline to it and therefore has been a huge movie. All of the movies that have been shown below here are all movies which have been exhibited by major companies rather than just the arthouse cinemas. This means that, when I look at films and deconstruct them, I must look at some possibilities from these movies and maybe some more. I must look at the genre that I want to do and then pick a movie which was distributed a long time ago and one that is quite recent to see where they have made changes so that I can include this in my teaser trailer.

Why is this your favourite film?

Most of the answers shown on the questionnaire suggest that they like the movie because of its plotline and the actors that are in it. This shows that I will need to think very well about who I want to cast as the character in my teaser trailer. Even though this is a teaser trailer, I must use good actors and people who can act well so that I can make this teaser trailer effective and well made. Also, the people who answered my questionnaire liked the way it was shot and the different camera shots that were used in the movie. This shows that I must explore different camera shots and that I must use different camera shots where they are appropriate.

Would the movie attract you to go and see it because of who the director is?

Yes - 28%
No - 42%
Maybe - 28%

This suggests that I could put the name of who made the film, which would be my name, on the teaser trailer as the majority of people who took this questionnaire said that they would probably go and see a film depending on who the director is.

Where do you go to see films?

TV - 20%
DVD - 27%
Cinema - 27%
Internet - 11%
Streaming - 9%
Other - 2%

This suggests that more of the people who took the questionnaire will go and see a movie in the cinema or on DVD. Therefore, I could distribute the teaser trailer on a DVD or in the cinema where more of my target market are likely to go. There was a person who might view a film on a phone on a train. As this wasn't a popular answer, I will not be distributing it this way.

Who would you go and see a movie with?

Friends - 45%
Family - 25%
Boyfriend/Girlfriend - 22%
Alone - 6%
Other - 0%

This shows that more people are likely to go and see it with other people because they find it more of a pleasant sociable experience if they were to go with someone else.

What is your favourite colour?

Green - 14%
Blue - 21%
Pink - 7%
Purple - 14%
Red - 14%
Yellow - 7%
Orange - 14%
Black - 7%
Other - 0%

This shows that most people like the bright colours which, together, look colourful and make anything stand out. This could be used in my poster for the film to capture the eye of anyone who walks past and attract people to go and see the movie. These colours will be used in ancilliary products because they will attract people to go and see the film which would have been derived from the teaser trailer and therefore helping make this a success.
