film certificates and information about them!!

This website is very useful as it will help me choose where my teaser trailer should be when considering the different age restrictions. The British Board of Film Classification (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/) This organisation has to classify every movie and game that is made, distributed and exhibited in the UK as it allows people to know what the movie includes and whether it is suitable for young children to see the product.

This is a website which shows the film categories and anything about classifying films for students who are taking Media and need it to classify their own products. I found this a good website as it will help me classify what age restriction I must use for my teaser trailer. I must use a suitable age restriction because if I don't I will loose half of my target market depending on what age restriction I use. Below is a list of what the different age restrictions mean and the guidelines to what they offer.

It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
If a work is particularly suitable for a pre-school child to view alone, this will be indicated in the Consumer Advice.
Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.
The ‘12A’ category exists only for cinema films. No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, and films classified ‘12A’ are not recommended for a child below 12. An adult may take a younger child if, in their judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.
The ‘12’ category exists only for video works. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video work.
No-one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.
No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video work.
The ‘R18’ category is a special and legally restricted classification primarily for explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Films may only be shown to adults in specially licensed cinemas, and video works may be supplied to adults only in licensed sex shops. ‘R18’ videos may not be supplied by mail order.
(all of the above reference - http://www.bbfc.co.uk/)

The film certificate that I would use is the 15 years or over because this attracts my target market to watch the teaser trailer and my teaser trailer will be suitable for this certificate as well. The only disadvantage to having this film certificate is that noone below the age of 15 can watch it and therefore the target market is cut down drastically. This therefore leads me onto thinking that I should reduce the film certificate to a 12. However, if I do this, the target market which I have based this at wont go to watch it because they might feel that they are too young to see the movie. Therefore, my final decision will be that the film certificate will be a 15 because this will attract my target market better.
General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children.
Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.

Rotten Tomatoes audience research...

This is a movie website where they have reviews which are put up by critics to tell the general public what the movie is like and whether it is any good. As you can see, this movie is rated quite high and therefore it shows that it is a good movie. So, I can use this and be sure that the people who rated it on the IMDB website must have thought that the movie was good. It also shows that 79% of the audience liked it. This means that the audience must have found it interesting and therefore my storyline to my teaser trailer must also be slightly interesting as it is a similar storyline to Ghost.

This is a review on the rotten tomatoes website which shows reviews and how many people like it according to critics and the general public. According to the critics, it wasn't very good and it says "Hilary Swank is miscast as the romantic lead in this clichéd film about loss and love" (reference - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ps_i_love_you/) However, according to the audience who, personally, are the most important people because they are the ones who give the producers and all the other people who are involved in the whole process of film making their money therefore the audience are the ones who make the movie a success. So, summing up the two percentages, this is a movie that I will be deconstructing in a later post so that I can see what I can use from it in my blog.

IMDB audience research...

Ghost (1990)

Males 38,424 6.9
Females 11,634 7.3

Males under 18 315 7.5
Females under 18 277 7.8

This shows that roughly the same amount of women as men under the age of 18 reviewed this movie and therefore I should target my teaser trailer to both genders who are below the age of 18. This is a surprise because I thought that this movie was more of a chick flick rather than a movie which is generalised for everyone. I will definitely take this into account when I have to think about who I'm going to target this to and who I cast because targeting the teaser trailer to the right people is the most vital part because if I don't market it properly it won't be a very good teaser trailer.

P.S. I Love You (2007)

Males 26,245 6.7
Females 19,397 7.5

Males under 18 343 7.1
Females under 18 859 7.8

This is a similar movie to Ghost (1990) but was just made 17 years later and the reviews for males and females under the age of 18 is a lot more different to the ones we see in Ghost. This shows that more women are more likely to watch these kinds of movies because of the content that is in them. What I mean is that it might not interest the male population as much as the female population because more movies which are better financed in terms of special effects have come out and therefore peoples expectations of good films and adventure films have gone up. After looking at this, I think that I will primarily target my teaser trailer to females because this is more of a modern film and it applies more than the movie Ghost.

However, this target market research isn't very reliable as it only represents a small percentage of the target market. The target market for the people who have reviewed this on IMDB will be people who constantly go on IMDB and this therefore cuts down the amount of reliability as it represents only a small demographic of people.

target audience questionnaire analysis!!

What age are you?

71% said they were 17 and 28% said they were 18.

This shows that I must target my teaser trailer to the age range of 17-18 year old people as this is where it will most likely be shown. This also shows that my questionnaire was targeted at a very small demographic of people therefore making my teaser trailer target a small amount of people.

What gender are you?

35% said they were male and 64% said they were female.

This shows that more females answered my questionnaire due to many reasons. This could have been because they felt more motivated to do so or because they found the questionnaire, overall, to be more interesting than the male demographic. This tells me that I may have to target my teaser trailer to the female audience.

What is your ethnicity?

100% said they were white.

This suggests that I should most likely be exhibiting and distributing this movie where the majority of the population is white as it will be more beneficial to the company to exhibit the movie where there are white ethnic origins because we know, looking at this questionnaire, that there will be more white ethnic groups going to watch this movie.

What category of film do you prefer to watch?

Horror - 7%
Thriller - 7%
Action/Adventure - 21%
Romance - 14%
Gangster - 0%
War - 0%
Fantasy - 14%
Sci-fi - 14%
Comedy - 21%
Western - 0%

This shows that more people are going to watch a movie which shows themes of action/adventure and comedy than a film which shows signs of horror or thriller. This is a surprise as I thought that the age group which I targeted this questionnaire to would be more likely to watch a movie with horror or thriller themes in them. Some people in the questionnaire picked more than one which was in the next question. These were mostly comedy and thriller which doesn't surprise me as the programmes/films that are on the TV/DVD which target this age range, are likely to be from this genre.

Look at the movie poster in the link here: http://www.impawards.com/2006/prestige.html and comment on Title, Lighting, Colour and Font

images of the male characters surrounding the female could show that they are protecting her, lighting has been used to distinguish who is bad and who is good, colours are black and white because this was the time it was set in, font is clear and easy to read targeting the whole market
very nice image of all the main actors, good use of lighting to show the baddy and goody, good use of black and white and font is easy to read
nice simplistic titles which draws extra attention to the faces in dark colours. i like the use of black and white and editing of the photo.
the title wasn't very obvous first time i saw it but its cool like the images, and how it is a dark poster it seems like it is probalbly going to be a dark themed filmbut really awesome two because of the actors and the way they are placed on the poster is neat, the font is standard getting the information out there but with style idea.
good use of lighting, good illumination of faces, title not strong enough, needs to show more of the blue face in the middle, plot not really that clear.
dark lighting and colours makes it look mysterious.
title is small, it has high jackman in it, shows who might be a goodie and who might be a baddie, very authentic looking and the font is simple and easy to read
Title - intriguing, image - makes me think is this a psycho movie?, lighting - good for the type of effect it wants to create (dark/mysterious) colour - adds to effect, font - easy to read
Dark, unoriginal, boring.
has a small title, the image is attractive, lighting is used to show if anyone is a baddie or a goodie and the font is simple and easy to read.
Woman in the center with blue smoke. She is between 2 men suggesting a love triangle. If i didnt know what the film was about, iwould have thought it was a romance. Prestige suggests delicacy, elite - heirarchy?
Dark, spooky, good use of typography through bold text.
Dark colours add moodiness, font suggests serious film.

This shows that the people who took the questionnaire liked the use of lighting to make it seem mysterious and it distinguished between the bad characters and the good characters. They also found that the font was clear and easy to read so therefore it targets a wider age group as well as who it was targeting in the first place. I will use this technique of lighting because I want to create the mysterious look. However, I will use colour in my poster and magazine cover because I want colour to be shown as it will target my target market in a more effective way.

What sort of film do you prefer to watch?

35% said authentic and 64% said modern.

This suggests that more people like elements from films that are about the present and the future rather than the past. This helps me as I will set costume and location in a modern area so that I don't lose the viewers' attention easily and therefore making the teaser trailer a failure.

From question 6, why do you prefer this type of film?

They preferred this type of film because the prefer to watch things that are made in modern times and not things that have already been repeated. Therefore, I shall make my teaser trailer set in the modern times as I could potentially lose my target markets interest if I was to make the movie authentic.

What is your favourite film?

the duchess
i am legend
amelie
Edward sissorhands
transformers/poseidon
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium
the a team
There are so many! The pacifier
Edward Scissor Hands
The Italian Job.
Flushed Away/ 2 fast 2 furious
inception
A Clockwork Orange
Scott Pilgrim vs. the world

This suggests that the majority of people like something that shows a bit of comedy but has a good storyline to it and therefore has been a huge movie. All of the movies that have been shown below here are all movies which have been exhibited by major companies rather than just the arthouse cinemas. This means that, when I look at films and deconstruct them, I must look at some possibilities from these movies and maybe some more. I must look at the genre that I want to do and then pick a movie which was distributed a long time ago and one that is quite recent to see where they have made changes so that I can include this in my teaser trailer.

Why is this your favourite film?

Most of the answers shown on the questionnaire suggest that they like the movie because of its plotline and the actors that are in it. This shows that I will need to think very well about who I want to cast as the character in my teaser trailer. Even though this is a teaser trailer, I must use good actors and people who can act well so that I can make this teaser trailer effective and well made. Also, the people who answered my questionnaire liked the way it was shot and the different camera shots that were used in the movie. This shows that I must explore different camera shots and that I must use different camera shots where they are appropriate.

Would the movie attract you to go and see it because of who the director is?

Yes - 28%
No - 42%
Maybe - 28%

This suggests that I could put the name of who made the film, which would be my name, on the teaser trailer as the majority of people who took this questionnaire said that they would probably go and see a film depending on who the director is.

Where do you go to see films?

TV - 20%
DVD - 27%
Cinema - 27%
Internet - 11%
Streaming - 9%
Other - 2%

This suggests that more of the people who took the questionnaire will go and see a movie in the cinema or on DVD. Therefore, I could distribute the teaser trailer on a DVD or in the cinema where more of my target market are likely to go. There was a person who might view a film on a phone on a train. As this wasn't a popular answer, I will not be distributing it this way.

Who would you go and see a movie with?

Friends - 45%
Family - 25%
Boyfriend/Girlfriend - 22%
Alone - 6%
Other - 0%

This shows that more people are likely to go and see it with other people because they find it more of a pleasant sociable experience if they were to go with someone else.

What is your favourite colour?

Green - 14%
Blue - 21%
Pink - 7%
Purple - 14%
Red - 14%
Yellow - 7%
Orange - 14%
Black - 7%
Other - 0%

This shows that most people like the bright colours which, together, look colourful and make anything stand out. This could be used in my poster for the film to capture the eye of anyone who walks past and attract people to go and see the movie. These colours will be used in ancilliary products because they will attract people to go and see the film which would have been derived from the teaser trailer and therefore helping make this a success.

music copyrights and laws!!

http://sbinfocanada.about.com/cs/legalmatters/a/websitetheftjb.htm

This is a very useful website as it will help me with the music copyrights and the legal matters that must be thought about through the whole process of making my practical production. On this website, it has lots of links that has a lot of extra infromation on there which could be added and also websites which reference where they got the piece of information from. For example, it has a separate link to the World Intellectual Property Organisation which helps make the readwer understand what they need to know to understand the paragraph that is on there to explain a part of the copyright laws.

The website is split into different pieces. These pieces are What can be considered copyright material?, What is theft?, How do you know if your website content is being used without your permission?, What are the downfalls of having your content on too many sites?, What should you do when you find out when your content has been the victim of copyright infringement? and How can you prevent copyright infringement?. All of these headings are useful to everyone and not just the small demographic of people who know all the laws and copyright laws because it explains everything in a much easier way.

What can be considered copyright material?

"Copyright is a legal term describing rights given to creators for their literary and artistic works." this is a definition from the website about the world intellectual property organisation (reference - http://www.wipo.int/portal/index.html.en) There are also some other links on the paragraph which show what copyright is and what can be classified as copyright. (http://sbinfocanada.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=sbinfocanada&cdn=money&tm=157&gps=403_399_1436_694&f=00&su=p284.12.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-42/ and http://www.copyright.gov/) This will help me very much as the music I need to use in my teaser trailer must be copyright safe and therefore these websites will help me find out what is copyright and what isn't.

What is theft?

defintion of theft - "Noun: 1 a : the act of stealing; specifically: the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it; b: an unlawful taking (as by embezzlement or burglary) of property." (reference - http://www.m-w.com/)
definition of infringement - "Noun: 1: the act of infringing: VIOLATION; 2: an encroachment or trespass on a right or privilege." (reference - http://www.m-w.com/)
This will help me very much as it will help me distinguish between what is theft and what is copyright. This will mean that whatever music I use in my teaser trailer is more safe and secure.

How do you know if your website content is being used without your permission?

This can only be known by word of mouth. So through friends who might go onto the website and then go onto another webiste and find the same thing. However, you could also search this into google by using quotation marks but the search that you are doing mustn't be too long. This will help broaden the search and therefore could be found easier to find the content.

What are the downfalls of having your content on too many sites?

Your reputation could be damaged as the person who sees the content on another website doesn't know that the content originated from your website. Also, Google search engine might view the content as spam and therefore not put it into the search.

What should you do when you find out when your content has been the victim of copyright infringement?

http://www.archive.org This website will show you who the founder of the website was on the website that you went on therefore making it easy to prove who produced the website. When someone finds out that they have used your webiste in a bad way, they will write an email apologising and explaining what they wanted to use the website for.

How can you prevent copyright infringement?

Unfortunately, there isn't really a way of preventing the copyright from happening but the laws should stop people from dping it because they are very costly to the persons reputaion and the fact that it is quite an expensive thing to recover from financially therefore persuading people not to do it.

looking at 3 useful websites!!

I have looked at 3 useful websites that could help me in the production of my blog and my teaser trailer. The websites that I will be looking at are http://www.wix.com/, http://www.getaheadocrmedia.blogspot.com/ and www.ocrmediastudies.weebly.com/index. Below is a brief explanation and analysis of the websites.

http://www.wix.com/

This website helps people make their own websites on the internet. Looking at the website without loging in or signing up, it might be useful for people who want to create a website for their work but this doesn't interest me because I can't make a website without direct supervision from someone telling me how to do it. Maybe this is something I can learn in this year of my Media course.

http://www.getaheadocrmedia.blogspot.com/

This website has a lot of useful links that relate to what needs to be in the blog to achieve high grades. Even though this has information for what is needed for the AS students it could also help the A2 students in what they need to include as this will show anymore information that could be added to the blog for extra credit. This is a very useful website for me because it has a lot of useful websites that I could go ojn which could help me with my practical production.

www.ocrmediastudies.weebly.com/index

This is another useful website as it shows what other students from A2 have done for their practical production. This could help me as it could influence what I could put into my blog and give me ideas about what I need to include. You can also click on the brief that is suitable for what you are doing. For example, I clicked on one of the briefs which is the brief that I am doing, and it shows the teaser trailer and the two ancilliary products that the candidate has produced. This will definitely help me in the production of my practical as it will show me the standard of work I need to achieve in order to get high grades.

distributon and exhibtion for film

There are many different processes to the distribution and the exhibition to the film business. All in all, there are 12 processes that help a the distribution and exhibition techniques of making a movie successful. The name of the processes are:

1)   The Idea
2)   Development Finance
3)   Script Development
4)   Packaging
5)   Finance
6)   Pre-production
7)   The Shoot
8)   Post-production
9)   Sales
10) Marketing
11) Exhibition
12) Other Windows

1) THE IDEA

This is the first part of the making process of a movie because without an idea you don't have a movie. There must be a source of inspiration for the idea to have developed in the first place. This source of inspiration could have been from anywhere but one of many ways an idea could have come from is to think of a remake. Remaking something adds a level of security to the production and therefore makes it easier to define the market. This is helpful as it can attract financial backing more easily but the risk is that audiences might not respond to the idea very well as they wont want to see something they have seen before. Ideas can also derive from real life events but this means that the idea must be interesting and to do this you must be a good film maker and be able to find good stories easily. The last way, obviously, is finding the original idea from a conversation you might have had or a dream you might have had but these ideas must be protected. Film producers often take out error and ommissions insurance so that the don't get prosecuted for libel, slander, breach of copyright and the like. Once you have pitched your idea to the film crew, it is the producers that are always interested in the idea, if they weren't they wouldn't be making the movies that we have today. Once a producer has found the idea, it is their job to turn this idea into reality and be able to make the movie successful.

2) DEVELOPMENT FINANCE

This process involves pitching an idea to the film company which is ready to make the movie in which you are trying to sell. If the film company decides to invest in the idea that you have pitched to them, they then have to finance the everything by borrowing money from other places (this would link to the small independant film companies) or by using what money they have and making sure that they get a good amount of money out of it at the end (big film companies).

3) SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT

This would include making the script based on the idea that you have given to the investors (the film company which has decided to make your movie). First of all they would make a step outline, this will be done by making a series of storyboards and having an idea about what the characters can say depending on the genre of the film. Next, they must go over and what they have put into the storyboard and then put this into a first draft. This first draft will then be sent to the producers and the rest of the crew to see whether they like the storyline. Afterall, they are invloved in the process as well! When everyone is happy with the script, it is then sent to the producers so that they can write a synopsis to then send this out to potential investors.

4) PACKAGING

This is when the producer estimates a rough budget which can then be sent onto the film companies. As this is only a rough estimation, we can then roughly estimate any above-the-line talent. This includes: the Director, the Actors and any key creative personel. Once they have decided who they want to cast and which film makers to use, it is then taken to the heads of department to make sure that this is financially realistic and can therefore be made. After this, schedules are then made to ensure that they don't waste any time doing something that should be done or shouldn't be done. This schedules include the financial and recoupment schedules and the production and detailed budget scedule.

5) FINANCING

In this part of the film business of distribution and exhibition finance has to be thought aboutwhen making a film. They must go out into the market to find investors that will help finance the movie. Once they have found an investor, who could be anyone in the world, investment begins and meetings with the investors to sort out the financing of the movie are made and attended to. The producer can also organise making money from pre-sales, this could be in the form of merchandise such as posters and little toys from the movies. Then, the banks are invloved to work out funding for the movie and then it goes into a faze which is called the completion bond. Completion bonds aren't inluded with the majuor film companies because the major companies that help finance these movies like to take the financial risk, but independant film companies such as Warp need this as this means that if they run out of money they are going to get money from insurance companies. Then the movie is ready to undergo film production.

6) PRE-PRODUCTION

This is when all the casting and meetings are arranged to think of who they want to cast and where they want to film the movie they are making. This also includes any part of the movie which needs any special effects that could then be edited in after the movie has been filmed. This will be done because it makes it easier and quicker when they edit the whole movie at the end of the shooting of the movie. Storyboarding will be done so that there is more knowledge into what the crew want the movie to look like and what they want to happen. Production design will also be included here so that they can show to the rest of the crew what the movie will look like and what they want the movie to look like. It is then taken to the production unit where they make up the key logistic triangle so that realistically, the movie can be done.

7) THE SHOOT

This part includes all the filming of the movie. This will include all of the cast and crew to ensure that the movie is a success because if it isn't then the movie won't sell properly and therefore will make the movie a disaster and the film companies will be angry because they have just wasted there money in making a movie which didn't sell effectively.

8) POST-PRODUCTION

This is when the movie has been filmed and they start on the editing of the movie. The editing of the movie can range from making the credits to adding the special effects into the movie. This will also include the rough cut of the movie which means taking out any scenes which are not usable and leaving the scenes which can be used and taking them to the editor to put all the scenes together to make the movie. When the movie has been done and all of the editing is finished, it is then taken to the duplicators and are then copied so that the movie can be exhibited to several different places. The final cut is then made after this and is then ready to be sold to the exhibitors to show their film.

9) SALES

This part of the film process is where the distributor is involved. Big film companies such as Warner Brothers will distribute their own films because they have the finances to do this as their own company. Smaller film companies such as Warp will need some sort of distributional help. The first trailer is then made for the movie so that the producer can show this to potential distributors and persuade them to distribute their movie. Once the movie has been distributed by the chosen company, the film is targeted to the audience and this is where competition is high as there are also more movies made by other companies which will bring out their own movies at the same time. Screenings of these movies are then shown in the cinema and the deal is negotiated.

10) MARKETING

This is when the film is properly sold to the exhibitors to show the movie. This involves the marketing team and good methods of advertising to make the movie well known. There are two forms of advertising, above-the-line and below-the-line advertising. Above-the-line is a more broadcast way of advertising something and therefore is published to the mass audiences. Below-the-line is more focused at the niche market and therefore it is a more specialised market. Once they have established an effective way of advertising, it is then released into the media so that it can get positive feedback. Then, there is internet marketing which helps make the film even more well known. After the marketing techniques have been used to make the film well known and have a positive reflection on cinema, it is then sold to the exhibitors.

11) EXHIBITION

This involves the premiere, the cinemas, the prinitng of the film, the box office performance, the revenue and the recoupment. Basically, it starts with the premiere of the movie where the actors walk on the red carpet and are able to see the movie for the first time since filming. After the film has been shown in the premiere it is then exhibited in the appropriate cinemas, this will then be followed on by the printing of the film where it is copied ready for sale on DVD. The box office performance and the revenue are then looked at to find out whether the film was a success and after this a recoupment meeting is made to pay the investors the money back which they put into the film.

12) OTHER WINDOWS

This will include what happens after the film has ben exhibited in the cinema. This will consist of the DVD and video of the film, the game of the film, the film that will be shown on the aeroplane etc, broadcasting it on TV, the profits and the completion of the film. Profits will only be given out to th producer when the distributor, the eshibitor and all of the investors are paid. This is because they must pay back the companies which have helped make the film first as they are the ones who bought the film in the first place.

Poster research

As I have to make two ancilliary products and the first one was to make a magazine front cover, I am also going to make a poster for the film.

This movie poster, photographically, is very good. This is because it shows the two main characters of the film, which also makes the viewer aware of who is in the movie, and the colours that have been used help complement each other very well as the yellow in 'John' brings out the colour that is on the grass on the sand in the picture. Also, the picture that they have used for the poster isn't over exposed or under exposed. This makes the poster even better because it shows who the actors are very well without making them look 'un-human' and also the actors are good to take pictures of which helps when they need to take many pictures because if they weren't very good at taking pictures then they wouldn't make the movie poster very well which therefore would lead to poor cinema viewings which isn't what happened. I will most likely be using the way they have used colours to bring out the elements that are in the picture as I think it will make the overall look ofthe poster very effective.

This movie poster is very effective because it brings the world of Harry Potter to life almost. This is effective as it is like the proper wanted poster that they use in the film 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'. This has been used because they want to make the viewers become apart of the film and to do this they need the viewers interaction with the posters that they create for the movie. This also shows the actor who is playing the prisoner in the movie who, at the beginning, we assume to be a bad guy. As the actor, Gary Oldman, usually plays psychotic characters or characters that are heroes and assist the main characters we know that he cannot be a bad guy. Therefore, it makes the viewer want to watch the movie even more because we want to know what kind of character he is going to play as we are confused by the fact that he is a bad guy at the beginning. Also, showing who is going to play Sirius Black makes the viewer want to go and see the movie because, if they have read the books, they want to know how he plays the role.

This poster shows no character and no proper scenery. This has been done because it shows a mockery of the proper posters that were used for The Dark Knight. It has all The Jokers scribblings on the poster because it shows us which characters are going to be used without actually giving a proper face. This is effective because it shows that The Joker is back and that he hates The Batman. The 'Why So Serious?' line at the top has been used on the poster to show why the poster has to be serious and is one of The Jokers main quotes. He is saying this because it could be that he doesn't want anyone to take The Batman seriously because he doesn't believe The Batman is a good guy. I could use this in my poster but not in this style as this could completely change the way in which the narrative is being put accross to my target market.

This poster is very effective photographically as well. This shows a picture of Kiera Knightley's face in the film titled 'The Duchess'. If the actress didn't photograph very well the poster would be a disaster as the whole poster focuses on the main character who, if you know what the film is about, is about Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire. The plain green background makes Kiera Knightley stand out as even more there is no off putting pattern behind her head which could make the viewer become disinterested in the movie and therefore the population of viewers for the movie has gone down drastically. The green background has been used because it attracts the target market more strongly and therefore captures their attention in an effective way. I will probably use this idea but I probably wont as my photography skills are not advanced and therefore the poster I would make wont be very effective.

Research into magazine covers

The ancillary products which I have decided to do is a film magazine front cover which features the film.

This movie poster shows the main character. This is so that the viewer can establish who is in the movie and therefore this could attract the audience to go and see the movie because it has Leonardo DiCaprio in the film titled 'Inception'. I would most likely use this effect as I would want to let people know who is in it as this could attract the target audience to see the movie. They have also used a very good effect which shows all the writing on a slant. This has been used as it has just sucked everything in from the magazine cover which could attract the viewer even more because it could also suck the viewer into watching the movie. The colours also contrast really well as you have the grey and the blue colours on the background and on the main character and then you have the red magazine name 'Empire' and the red title of the movie 'Inception' which shows up very boldly which is what the magazine wanted to do.

This poster has everything lined up in the middle of the poster which adds more emphasis on the title of the movie that it is promoting. Also, it shows the american flag which is related to the name of the movie, this has been done because it adds a more colourful background and it relates very well to the film in which 'Empire' is helping promote. It also shows the main character as one of the main focuses. This has been done because like in the other magazine cover, they want to establish the main character so that the viewer has some sort of familiarity with the film and so that they are 'up-to-date' with what is going on. All the colours that have been used on the front cover are the colours that are used on the american flag 'The Stars and Stripes' which shows that they have thought about what colours they should use to maximise effect.

This magazine poster is very effective. It has the name of the magazine in the authentic style in which 'The A-Team' uses its font in the movie as well as on the poster. Also, having different elements of the magazine poster similar to what is in the movie means that the viewer is likely to expect something similar to what the magazine cover is showing. Instead of showing one character, this shows 4 characters who all happen to be very significant to the storyline. This has been used so that the viewer can see who the casting directors have cast the main characters, B.A, Hannibal, Face and Murdoch. They have shown the characters of these people so that the viewers who were fans of the original series like who is in the movie and therefore will most likely be going to see the movie.

This picture on the front cover of the magazine has been used because it shows the main character and not much else. This has been used so that the viewer can establish the character and so that they can become more familiar with them. The colours that have been used are very similar to the colours that have been used for the picture of the character and therefore there aren't any bad colour contrasts that could make the magazine look very aesthetically displeasing. I will most likely use this sort of magazine cover but maybe have the whole of the person body along with another character that is one of the main focuses in my teaser trailer. The make-up used on the actress in the magazine cover makes the eyes look slightly wide and daunting. This has been used by the use of black eye-liner and the blue eyes. This has been used because it wants to tell the viewers about the character.

Finalised questionnaire!!!

As you can see from my last bolg post, we have had to design a new questionnaire because the other one was not made very well. Below you can see my proper questionnaire which I will be using for my practical to establish my target audience. In this blog post there is a link for my questionnaire, this will be sent out to people I know on facebook as they are the majority of my target market. To get opinions from an older target market as well, I will also be distributing the questionnaire to members of the general public so that I have a more reliable data. I will most likely get the general publics answers to my questionnaire on recording and then I shall be able to analyse the answers and put them onto my blog as part of my research.
