Movie poster

Movie poster is finished!!

One of my ancillary products is finished!! The only thing I have to do is show it to my focus group and see what they have to say about it. To do this, I will be filming their responses and then uploading it to my blog.

Once I have filmed the focus groups responses, I will be making any changes to the movie poster which I need to do. This will mean that it is what my target market want and that it attracts them to watch the movie. I will also put the finished movie poster on here and see what my peer students from media class think about it and keep my blog updated.

The only thing that I have to do next is the magazine cover and to do this I will, again, be using photoshop as my understanding of the program has grown and it is one of the best ways to edit any photos. This and adding music to my teaser trailer are the last things I need to be do.

Movie poster and magazine cover photos!!

The pictures which I have taken for my practical are shown below, I haven't decided which photo to use for the movie poster and which one to use for the magazine cover yet so I will show this to my focus group and see what they have to say.

This photo would most likely be better to use for the magazine cover because it has room around it so that extra information about what is in the magazine can be covered. The only problem with this picture is that it doesn't show all of my characters and so it might be better to use it as one possible movie poster for my teaser trailer.
This photo is the same asthe one above but taken from much closer up. I think this would be a better movie poster than a magazine cover because there isn't much room for the extra information to go around the image and composition would not work effectively as a magazine cover. This will be taken into consideration when I choose which one to use as a movie poster and which one to use as a magazine cover.
This picture would make a better movie poster than a magazine cover because it shows all of the characters and if it was to be used as a magazine cover, the composition of the cover would have to be dramatically different and so it wouldn't look very effective. I will get some feedback from my focus group and see what they think about the idea of this picture as a movie poster and if there are any different ideas that I could do then I will do it.

The next thing to do with these images is to edit them on photoshop which is what I will do next lesson. This will need to be done on this program because it has more of a range of tools which I can use to make the photos look better rather than using them to edit on windows photo gallery.

SWOT target 26/01/2012

My targets for the next week are...

1) To find music which I can add to my teaser trailer to nearly finish it off
2) Start editing my poster and magazine cover so that it is done and I don't have to worry about it!!
3) Complete any posts that have been saved but not published

These should be done within the week which means that my practical should be almost done. After I have completed most of my practical the next thing for me to do is make my blog better by adding any things which I have missed out and anything which needs to be redone.

Composition ideas for my ancillary products

These are composition ideas for my magazine cover and movie poster. The first one I will start off with is my movie poster.

This movie poster is the sort of thing I want my movie poster to be like. The picture is up above and the title is at the bottom. This makes it easier for my target market to read the poster as we read from the top left and finish at the bottom right. This means that having my poster like this would make it easier for my target market to read it and so they don't need to work out how to read the poster. The font at the bottom which is quite big makes it stand out and the colour makes it look even bolder. As the red is on the top of the white, the colour looks bold because there isn't a fussy coloured background which helps make the font colour look brighter.

Apart from the fact that this magazine cover doesn't fit the genre or the target market which I am basing my teaser trailer at, all magazine covers look similar to this. The title is behind the main photo which shows the main character (most of the time) and the writing around the main image is something which would be involved in the magazine. The sub-title of the magazine would be the name of the film that has the privilege of being on the front cover to advertise the film. This has been done in the same sort of way that the poster has been done in. The target market, even if it is subconsciously, will read it from left to right and so the composition of this is something that I want to use so that my target market can read it well.

Poster and magazine cover colours!!

The type of colours that I use are vital and so it is something that I will need to take into consideration very closely. The colours that I use will be vital in the poster and magazine cover as this will be the main focus of how I attract the target market. Below are some colour schemes that I have shown my focus group and the best one will be the one that I will use. I will say why at the end of this post.

Here it shows which colour schemes to use. The majority of my focus group went with the white and black on grey (number 15) because they preferred the fact that it will have more of a powerful impact on the poster and magazine cover as a whole. I will therefore do this but for the magazine cover I will add a yellow title because it stands out a bit more and so it will make it more eye catching and so advertising will be more effective.

This is what I will use in my ancillary products because this is what my focus group prefer, and as my focus group are my target market, I will use this because it appeals to them more.

Advertisements!! 19/1/2012

In todays lesson we had a discussion on how to advertise products in an effective way and how companies advertise their products. This has made me think of the possible ways which I can advertise my main product (the movie/teaser trailer) through my magazine cover and my movie poster.

To do this I have thought of what to include in the photographs which I have taken and how to catch the eye of my target market.

Because my teaser trailer attracts the female young age group I have thought of analysing other adverts which attract the same target group as mine and see what they include which makes their products sell successfully.

This is the layout that I have chosen to use because it advertises the movie very well and so I think this is the best way to advertise my teaser trailer in movie poster format. I will add a tagline which will be in the teaser trailer. I want this because if there is a tagline it tells the audience more about the movie without giving away what the movie is about.

This is the type of thing that I want my magazine cover to be. Besides the fact that this is in french, it has the same elements that I want my magazine front cover to have. It has a close up of the actors faces and so it will attract audiences who like movies with these actors in them. Also, the magazine itself is using borrowed interest from the movie to try and sell the magazine but it works both ways as the movie is using audiences who would read the magazine to watch this movie.

This is something which I will consider when making my finished products.

Focus group questions

This is a presentation that I am going to ask my focus group as I need to know their opinions on these questions. I will add what they said in a later post.

Script for my teaser trailer (even if it is only about 40 seconds!!)

This is my script to my teaser trailer. I have decided to to not put much dialogue in it at all as this is how a director who I admire greatly has done their teaser trailers. They have more fade outs and more of location shots and shots with actors but without any dialogue.

Establishing shot of the location at the beginning to let the audience know where we are. Fade out onto the next shot which is a panning shot of the character to show yet more of the location. Fade out to show a man standing behind my main character in the distance to show that there is something there that should not be there. A black screen with the words 'What will it take for her to believe...' Wash out to a over the shoulder shot from the character who we saw in the background to show from the mans perspective of the main character. A tilting shot will then be used of the main character to ensure that the audience knows who we are focusing on. This then leads onto the bedroom scene where we see our main character crying.

Female lead : (crying) I miss him. I miss him so much.

Another black screen with the words 'He is only a single breath away?'. This will then be fade out and then a reaction shot of the female support where it will then be a blackout and the name of the movie will appear on the screen. A black screen with the title 'Mon Visiteur' comes onto the screen. This then fades onto the next shot of the female support looking at the female lead where she speaks the words...

Female support : (comfortingly) He's here.

This will then black out to say when the movie will be distributed.

SWOT targets 12/1/2012

Today I am going to update my blog considerably as I believe there are many thing missing from it. This includes what sort of music I am going to use, drafts for my poster and magazine cover and how far in my teaser trailer production I am at.

My poster and magazine cover photos have been taken already because I wanted to keep the same weather conditions and I wanted what the characters were wearing to be the same. This is because it limits the amount of continuity errors and I had all the shots I wanted and there was good weather to do this in. Also, if I had done it another time my actors would most likely not have been able to make anymore days and therefore it was convenient and practical to do it all on the same day.

So, today I will deconstruct a poster and magazine cover and then make some ideas of what fonts, colours and composition to use in my ancillary products.

SWOT targets (Strengths, Weaknesses, Outcomes, Targets)

S - I have finished my filming and captured photos for my ancillary products and also uploaded all of my footage onto the apple mac to start my editing.

W - I haven't added many elements which make a teaser trailer a teaser trailer and so I must continue with editing till I get this right. Also, I have not yet begun editing my photos on photoshop and therefore must learn to use this program to produce a poster and magazine cover which are good.

O - The editing will be mostly completed half way through the term to ensure that I have a considerable amount of time to ensure that I can get practical production finished by the beginning of February. My ancillary products will be finished so that i don't have to worry about doing them in the last few days.

T - Complete most of my editing and my ancillary products so that I don't have to rush doing them later on.

Thursday 5 January 2012

Editing starts today!!

The editing for my teaser trailer will start today (5/1/2012) which means that I can get my production finished for the deadline in February.

To do the editing, I am using i Movie HD on the apple mac because I know how the program works which is a massive bonus when completing my practical production.

The ancillary products will be edited when I get my camera in to upload the pictures onto the computer so that I can start editing them. This will be done using photoshop because I know that this program is a good program when editing pictures. However, I'm not very confident using photoshop and therefore will need some help from my teachers/classmates. I will organise this later on when I finally start editing my pictures.

What music I am going to use

The music that I have decided to use I will download at home as this is the only way to do this. I will make sure that I write an email asking for permission from the person whose music I want to use. If I get no reply I will assume that I can use the music and so it will be heard in my teaser trailer.

The type of music that I would like to use is something which is soft and quiet rather than something which is fast and loud because I don't want the genre of film to be lost within the music. I will look at this type of music when I get home and see what sort of thing I want to use.

When I have picked out music which I will most likely use, it will be put onto my blog and I will show this in front of my focus group to see what sound would be best to use. This will be done within the next two weeks.

Until then, I will keep blogging about other things until I can do this.
