Research into magazine covers

The ancillary products which I have decided to do is a film magazine front cover which features the film.

This movie poster shows the main character. This is so that the viewer can establish who is in the movie and therefore this could attract the audience to go and see the movie because it has Leonardo DiCaprio in the film titled 'Inception'. I would most likely use this effect as I would want to let people know who is in it as this could attract the target audience to see the movie. They have also used a very good effect which shows all the writing on a slant. This has been used as it has just sucked everything in from the magazine cover which could attract the viewer even more because it could also suck the viewer into watching the movie. The colours also contrast really well as you have the grey and the blue colours on the background and on the main character and then you have the red magazine name 'Empire' and the red title of the movie 'Inception' which shows up very boldly which is what the magazine wanted to do.

This poster has everything lined up in the middle of the poster which adds more emphasis on the title of the movie that it is promoting. Also, it shows the american flag which is related to the name of the movie, this has been done because it adds a more colourful background and it relates very well to the film in which 'Empire' is helping promote. It also shows the main character as one of the main focuses. This has been done because like in the other magazine cover, they want to establish the main character so that the viewer has some sort of familiarity with the film and so that they are 'up-to-date' with what is going on. All the colours that have been used on the front cover are the colours that are used on the american flag 'The Stars and Stripes' which shows that they have thought about what colours they should use to maximise effect.

This magazine poster is very effective. It has the name of the magazine in the authentic style in which 'The A-Team' uses its font in the movie as well as on the poster. Also, having different elements of the magazine poster similar to what is in the movie means that the viewer is likely to expect something similar to what the magazine cover is showing. Instead of showing one character, this shows 4 characters who all happen to be very significant to the storyline. This has been used so that the viewer can see who the casting directors have cast the main characters, B.A, Hannibal, Face and Murdoch. They have shown the characters of these people so that the viewers who were fans of the original series like who is in the movie and therefore will most likely be going to see the movie.

This picture on the front cover of the magazine has been used because it shows the main character and not much else. This has been used so that the viewer can establish the character and so that they can become more familiar with them. The colours that have been used are very similar to the colours that have been used for the picture of the character and therefore there aren't any bad colour contrasts that could make the magazine look very aesthetically displeasing. I will most likely use this sort of magazine cover but maybe have the whole of the person body along with another character that is one of the main focuses in my teaser trailer. The make-up used on the actress in the magazine cover makes the eyes look slightly wide and daunting. This has been used by the use of black eye-liner and the blue eyes. This has been used because it wants to tell the viewers about the character.
